Rescuing Amphibians

Rescuing Frogs

  • Only attempt a rescue of a frog if it is suffering from obvious signs of injury or disease.
  • Always wet your hands with water before attempting to handle a frog.
  • With your wet hands, gently place the frog into a waterproof container.
  • Pour a few drops of water on to its skin so that it does not dry out.
  • Cover the container and take to a wildlife carer or vet.
  • Always rehabilitate frogs back to the area where they were found, ideally on a warm, wet evening.

    Rescuing Turtles

  • Sometimes turtles that have been injured by vehicles can be successfully rescued and rehabilitated.
  • Download this paper on Effective Modern Shell Repair Techniques for Turtles for advice on techniques that can be used to repair turtle shells.
